It comes among the early stages of organized military action after the Hijrah, before the major battles.
In Ramadan of this year, there was the expedition of Hamzah ibn Abd al-Muttalib - may Allah be pleased with him - to Sif al-Bahr.
The Prophet ﷺ sent Hamzah may Allah be pleased with him with a group of emigrants to intercept a Quraysh caravan at Sif al-Bahr. The two sides faced each other and prepared to fight, but a man who was allied to both sides intervened and stopped the fighting, so they returned without a battle.
Quraysh still remained hostile to the Muslims, and trade caravans were passing from ash-Sham, so this expedition set out to intercept a caravan of Quraysh.
The continuing conflict between the Muslims and Quraysh after the Hijrah, and the effort to pressure Quraysh on its trade route.
The Muslims saw that the confrontation with Quraysh had begun to take the form of organized expeditions, while the possibility of peace or preventing fighting remained in some situations.
