The delegation of Tujib was a delegation from the Yemeni tribe of Tujib. They were from al-Sakun of Kindah. They came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Year 9 after the Hijrah as part of the Year of Delegations, and they were thirteen men. This delegation stood out because they brought with them the zakah from their wealth that Allah had made obligatory for them. The Prophet ﷺ said to them: «ردّوها فاقسموها على فقرائكم». They said that they had brought only what remained after their poor. The Prophet ﷺ was pleased with them and honored them. They asked the Prophet ﷺ about the Quran and the Sunnah, so he grew even more fond of them. Then they hurried back to their people to tell them what they had seen of the Prophet ﷺ and heard from him. One of the kindest details in their story is that they left a young man to watch over their mounts. When the Prophet ﷺ asked him what he needed, he did not ask for wealth. He said: ask Allah to forgive me and have mercy on me, and to place my richness in my heart. So the Prophet ﷺ made that supplication for him. The importance of the delegation of Tujib lies in the fact that it is a model of a conscious, sincere delegation: it came paying zakah, seeking knowledge, keen to convey the message to its people. Its story also shows the meaning of contentment and high aspiration in seeking forgiveness, not just gifts.
