Umm Kulthum, daughter of the Prophet ﷺ, was the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ by Mother of the Believers Khadijah bint Khuwaylid, may Allah be pleased with her, and the sister of Zaynab, Ruqayyah, and Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with them. She accepted Islam in Makkah and migrated to Madinah. Before Islam, she had been married to Utaybah ibn Abi Lahab, but he left her before consummation after Abu Lahab's hostility to the Prophet ﷺ intensified. After the death of her sister Ruqayyah, may Allah be pleased with her, the Prophet ﷺ married her to Uthman ibn Affan, may Allah be pleased with him, in the third year after the Hijrah. For that reason Uthman was called Dhu al-Nurayn, because he married the Prophet's ﷺ two daughters: Ruqayyah and then Umm Kulthum. Umm Kulthum did not have children with Uthman, and she died while the Prophet ﷺ was alive in Sha'ban of 9 AH. He grieved for her and witnessed her preparation and burial. Her biography is a page from the household of prophethood. It shows the patience of the Prophet's daughters in the face of Quraysh's harm, and the virtue of Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, and his special place in the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ household.
