Sa'd ibn Mu'adh may Allah be pleased with him was the noble Companion Sa'd ibn Mu'adh ibn al-Nu'man, of al-Aws from the Ansar, and his kunya was Abu 'Amr. He was the leader of Banu Abd al-Ashhal among al-Aws in Madinah. He accepted Islam at the hands of Mus'ab ibn Umayr may Allah be pleased with him before the Hijrah, and his Islam had a great impact; he called his people to Islam, so Banu Abd al-Ashhal accepted Islam, until his conversion was counted among the decisive events in the spread of Islam in Madinah. He witnessed Badr and Uhud, and he was among the great supporters of the Prophet ﷺ. His actions showed sincere support and strong faith. During the Battle of the Trench, he was hit by an arrow in the artery of his arm, then he judged between Banu Qurayzah after they accepted his judgment. The Prophet ﷺ said to the Ansar when he arrived: "Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri:The people of (Banu) Quraiza agreed to accept the verdict of Sa`d bin Mu`adh. So the Prophet (ﷺ) sent for Sa`d, and the latter came (riding) a donkey and when he approached the Mosque, the Prophet (ﷺ) said to the Ansar, "Get up for your chief or for the best among you." Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said (to Sa`d)." These (i.e. Banu Quraiza) have agreed to accept your verdict." Sa`d said, "Kill their (men) warriors and take their offspring as captives, "On that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "You have judged according to Allah's Judgment," or said, "according to the King's judgment (Sahih al Bukhari, hadith 4121)", and it is established in Sahih al-Bukhari that the Prophet ﷺ said when he died: "Jabir reported that the Throne of the most Compassionate shook because of the death of Sa'd b. Mu'adh (Sahih Muslim, hadith 6346)". He passed away, may Allah be pleased with him, in year 5 AH, from the effects of his wounds. He lived in Islam for only a few years, but they were years of great impact. His life remained an example of believing leadership, quick response to the truth, and giving oneself in support of the religion.
